Oregon Health and Science University Hospital | 100 Hospitals with Great Heart Programs 2017

Oregon Health and Science University Hospital (Portland). Oregon Health and Science University Hospital established OHSU Cardiovascular Institute in 2012 through a $125 million donation from Phil and Penny Knight. The institute is Oregon's only comprehensive heart program with services for end-stage heart failure and heart transplants. In 2016, the hospital's physicians and surgeons performed more than 600 heart transplants and more than 200 mechanical support device implants. The institute includes a 26-bed cardiovascular intensive care unit and a 12-bed immediate care unit, and its physicians are currently participating in the HeartMate 3 clinical trial studying the effectiveness of the left ventricular assist device in heart failure patients. U.S. News & World Report ranked OHSU Hospital among the top 50 hospitals in the nation for adult cardiology and heart surgery in 2017-18.
