Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (Columbus). The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital is a 150-bed facility with an ambulatory care center, heart transplant center and medication management clinic. The first heart transplant was performed at Ohio State Wexner Medical Center in 1986, and the hospital remains the only adult heart transplant center in central Ohio. Cardiac researchers at the medical center are studying how electricity spreads across the heart tissue to understand irregular heartbeats. U.S. News & World Report ranked Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital among the top 50 hospitals in the nation for cardiology and heart surgery, and CareChex ranked the hospital No. 7 in Ohio for cardiac surgery excellence.
