Northwestern Memorial Hospital is home to the Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute, which Blue Cross Blue Shield Association designated as a Blue Distinction Center for Cardiac Care. In 2016, the hospital reported 90 percent one-year survival rate and almost 80 percent five-year survival rate for isolated heart transplants, better than the national averages of about 85 percent and 71 percent, respectively. And national organizations have taken notice: U.S. News & World Report ranked Northwestern Memorial Hospital, an 871-bed facility, No. 7 in the nation for cardiology and heart surgery in 2017-18.
