MedStar Washington Hospital Center (Washington, D.C.). The MedStar Cardiology Heart and Vascular Institute at MedStar Washington Hospital Center employs 140-plus heart specialists. With more than 1,400 open heart surgeries performed there each year and the highest volume of catheterizations in the region, the hospital has one of the busiest heart programs in the U.S. In 2013, MedStar Washington Hospital Center and its Cardiology Heart and Vascular Institute partnered with Cleveland Clinic, the No. 1 hospital for cardiac care ranked by the U.S. News & World Report, to improve cardiology services. The publication also ranked MedStar Washington Hospital Center among the top 50 hospitals in the nation for cardiology and heart surgery in 2017-18.
