Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston). Massachusetts General Hospital is home to the Corrigan Minehan Heart Center, one of the first dedicated cardiac units in the nation. Since opening in 1916, Corrigan Minehan Heart Center physicians pioneered the development of pacemakers and created a first-of-its-kind heart monitor to detect arrhythmias. In addition to the heart center, Massachusetts General Hospital established the Cardiovascular Research Center in 1990 to bridge the gap between scientific findings about heart disease and cardiovascular medicine. One of the center's original components, development and regeneration, is currently studying how zebrafish can regenerate cardiac tissue to advance human heart care. U.S. News & World Report ranked Massachusetts General Hospital No. 5 in the nation for cardiology and heart surgery in 2017-18.
