Loyola University Medical Center (Maywood, Ill.). Loyola University's Center for Heart and Vascular Medicine is equipped with 30 specialists focused on pediatric cardiology, thoracic surgery and vascular surgery. Loyola surgeons completed the first heart transplant at the hospital in 1984 and reached the milestone of 800 heart transplants in 2016, the most of any Illinois hospital. In 2017, U.S. News & World Report ranked Loyola University Medical Center No. 18 in the nation for cardiovascular care, and CareChex ranked the hospital No. 2 in Illinois for cardiac surgery excellence.
