Indiana University Health Academic Health Center (Indianapolis). IU Health Cardiovascular, in association with Indiana University School of Medicine, serves as a regional referral institution for complex heart and vascular issues, treating more patients than any other program in the state. IU Health clinicians performed the first private hospital cardiac transplant in the world, developed the technology behind heart ultrasounds and invented the implantable cardioverter to regulate a patient's heartbeat. U.S. News & World Report ranked IU Health among the top 50 hospitals in the country for cardiology and heart surgery in 2017-18.
