Despite the complexities of heart and vascular surgery, the overall in-hospital mortality rate for vascular surgery is 1.7 percent, well below the 5.4 percent national average. Cleveland Clinic earned the top spot on U.S. News & World Report's list of the best hospitals for cardiology and heart surgery in 2017-18 and CareChex ranked Cleveland Clinic No. 1 in Ohio for major cardiac surgery. Cleveland Clinic also earned Blue Cross Blue Shield Association's Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.
