Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Los Angeles). Cedars-Sinai's Heart Institute provides services across the spectrum of heart care, including transplants. The division of cardiothoracic surgery, now part of the Heart Institute, launched in 1976 and has collected around 800 data points on each patient since its inception to better predict long- and short-term outcomes and complications. Between 2013 and 2016, the hospital maintained 30-day readmission rates below the national average for heart attack, heart failure, stroke, chronic pulmonary disease and pneumonia. U.S. News & World Report ranked the hospital No. 4 in the nation for adult cardiology and heart surgery for 2017 and Blue Cross Blue Shield Association designated Cedars-Sinai a Blue Distinction Center+ for cardiac care, recognizing quality, expertise and patient outcomes.
