Catholic Medical Center (Manchester, N.H.). Catholic Medical Center's New England Heart and Vascular Institute is staffed by 21 cardiologists, board-certified in interventional cardiology, electrophysiology and noninvasive cardiology. The hospital's cardiologists rank in the top 10 percent in the U.S. in door-to-balloon time, performing balloon angioplasty within 90 minutes of arrival. New England Heart and Vascular Institute cardiovascular surgeons performed the first beating heart surgery in northern New England in 1996 and achieved the first left ventricular assist device surgery in New Hampshire in 2011. Currently, surgeons perform more than 3,000 heart surgeries per year at the institute, with 90 percent of heart bypass surgeries performed on the patient's beating heart. Blue Cross Blue Shield Association recognized Catholic Medical Center's commitment to quality cardiac services by designating the hospital a Blue Distinction Center for cardiac care.
