Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (Boston). Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center created the CardioVascular Institute in 2007 by merging all heart services into a single organization. Since then, the hospital's network of community-based physicians refer patients who require advanced care to the CardioVascular Institute, which is staffed by busy Boston-based Harvard Medical School physicians. In 2015, the most recent reporting year, BIDMC logged 556 coronary artery bypass grafting procedures, 215 aortic valve replacement surgeries and 1,083 percutaneous coronary interventions. Over the past decade, several national organizations have recognized the hospital for cardiovascular care; Truven Health Analytics has named BIDMC a top cardiovascular hospital nine times since 2005, most recently in 2016. The Society of Thoracic Surgeons also bestowed the organization's highest possible rating for coronary artery bypass surgery and aortic valve replacement — three stars — and Blue Cross Blue Shield Association designated BIDMC a Blue Distinction Center+ for cardiac care.
