Barnes-Jewish Hospital (St. Louis). Barnes-Jewish Hospital's heart transplant program launched in 1985 and has since performed more than 500 transcatheter aortic valve replacements. The hospital's surgical team was the first in Missouri to perform a heart and lung transplant at the same time, and currently more than 70 percent of patients who receive heart transplants at Barnes-Jewish Heart & Vascular Center are fully rehabilitated. In 2015, the hospital was one of 35 in the nation selected to participate in the American College of Cardiology Patient Navigator Program, a first-of-its-kind program designed to support hospitals in providing personalized services to heart disease patients and prevent a quick return to the hospital. U.S. News & World Report ranked Barnes-Jewish Hospital among the top 20 in the nation for cardiac care in 2017.
