Stanford (Calif.) Health Care. Stanford Health Care's neurosurgery department comprises 60 surgeons and research faculty who perform around 4,000 neurosurgical operations per year. Among Stanford's three-institution health system is the only Level 1 trauma center between San Francisco and San Jose, and the first stroke center in the nation to receive The Joint Commission's comprehensive stroke center certification. In addition to providing nationally recognized neurosurgical care, Stanford focuses on advanced education with patient-specific three-dimensional virtual reality technology to help surgeons prepare for procedures; the system's Virtual Reality Center and the Neurosurgical Anatomy Lab, coupled with 3-D printing capabilities, provide a unique advantage to surgeons on the front lines of customized clinical care. The health system currently offers around 19 clinical trials focused on neurosurgery and spine. U.S. News & World Report ranked Stanford Health Care-Stanford Hospital among the top 20 hospitals in the nation for neurology and neurosurgery in 2017-18.
