Baystate Medical Center (Springfield, Mass.). The 716-bed independent academic Baystate Medical Center is the training site for the University of Massachusetts Medical School-Baystate in Springfield. It is a major referral center staffed by more than 1,100 physicians. At the medical center's Wesson Women and Infants' Unit, more than 4,000 babies are born each year. This unit is outfitted with 38 private rooms and the region's only NICU and high-risk perinatal referral center. Baystate Medical Center was recognized by CareChex as one of the top hospitals in the nation for women's health patient safety in 2018.
