The spine medicine program at the 505-bed UW Health provides treatment for spine tumors, deformities and traumas, and its physicians were the first in the world to perform laparoscopic-instrumented spinal fusions. A designated Blue Distinction Center for Spine Surgery, the academic medical center was one of the first hospitals in the nation to receive Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification from the Joint Commission, American Heart Association and American Stroke Association. The Brain Tumor Center at UW Health treats 1,200 patients with common and rare brain cancers annually in collaboration with the UW Carbone Cancer Center.
