The 1,409-bed Scripps Health has four primary stroke centers — Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas, Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego, Scripps Mercy Hospital Chula Vista and Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla was designated as a Comprehensive Stroke Center by the Joint Commission and the American Heart Association in 2012, one of the first hospitals in the nation to earn the designation. Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla also earned Healthgrades' Stroke Care Excellence Award for the past three years. With its clinical offerings like deep brain stimulator implants for movement disorders and gamma knife procedures for benign and malignant brain tumors, CareChex ranked Scripps Health No. 7 in California for neurosurgery for 2017.
