Billings Clinic (Billings, MT). Billings Clinic grew from the general medicine office of Arthur J. Movius, MD, who founded his practice in Billings in 1911. Eventually, the practice expanded into what was then known as Billings Deaconess Hospital, which opened its doors in 1927 with 58 beds. Today, Billings Clinic consists of a multispecialty physician group, a 285-bed hospital and a 90-bed skilled nursing and assisted living facility. The organization has more than 255 physicians and 85 non-physician providers and serves patients in Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota and South Dakota.
Billings Clinic has received numerous awards, including Magnet recognition for nursing excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Truven Health Analytics named the facility as one of its 100 Top Hospitals in 2013, and U.S. News & World Report ranked Billings Clinic as the top hospital in Montana. The organization is also part of the Mayo Clinic Care Network, which was established by Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic as a network of hospitals and health systems that work to improve the quality and delivery of care in their regions.
In 2013, Billings Clinic was one of the first four healthcare organizations in the nation to receive accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance as an accountable care organization. Also last year, the organization created a joint venture, called Billings Clinic RegionalCare, with for-profit operator RegionalCare Hospital Partners in Brentwood, Tenn.
Last year, Billings Clinic launched the first internal medicine residency in Montana and received accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. In addition to its early adoption of the accountable care organization framework, Billings Clinic has built partnerships with several rural hospitals in the area to better integrate care.
