Generation Z named Memphis, Tenn.-based St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as their top employer of choice, above Amazon and Google, according to the most recent National Society of High School Scholars annual career interest survey.
The survey showed 39 percent of respondents expect to work in medicine or a health-related field. In keeping with this finding, four of the top 10 employers that respondents would most like to work for are in that field. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital ranked No. 1, beating Google (No. 2), Amazon (No. 4), Walt Disney Co. (No. 5), and Apple (No. 6). The top 10 also included a local hospital (No. 2), Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (No. 9), and Health Care Service Corp. (No. 10). Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic ranked in the top 15.
The survey, conducted this spring, is a partnership between the scholars group and Hanover Research. It included more than 16,000 high school and college-aged individuals, representing all U.S. states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories.
The New York Times defines Generation Z as those born 1996-2010.
