Pennsylvania sets aside $225M to support healthcare workers

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf has signed a law to set aside $225 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act funding to support hospitals and their workers, his office said Jan. 26.

The funding targets retention and recruitment programs for nurses and other hospital employees.

A total of $100 million will be for acute-care general hospitals, and $110 million will be for critical access hospitals, facilities with a high volume of Medicaid patients, and behavioral/psychiatric providers of inpatient services, according to a news release from lawmakers.

The legislation also appropriates $15 million for the Pennsylvania Student Loan Relief for Nurses Program.

Overall, nearly 330 hospitals and healthcare facilities will receive money, PennLive reported.
