Hospitals and other employers in the west Ohio region posted 15,554 job openings from May 14 to June 13, according to the state's department of job and family services.
The job postings for Auglaize, Champaign, Clark, Clinton, Darke, Fayette, Greene, Mercer, Miami, Montgomery, Preble and Shelby counties included several hospitals.
Dayton Children's Hospital posted 179 job openings, while Cincinnati-based Mercy Health posted 154. Dayton, Ohio-based Kettering Health Network posted 107 and Dayton-based Premier Health posted 65.
More than 660 of the overall 15,554 job postings were for registered nurses, and 161 were for licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses. Additionally, 96 area job ads were for physical therapists, and 91 were for medical and health services managers.
The job postings come as Kettering Health Network is expanding services at its Grandview Medical Center in Dayton and building a hospital in Troy, Ohio. Premier Health has also been involved in various capital projects, including teaming up with Birmingham, Ala.-based Encompass Health for a 60-bed rehabilitation hospital near Dayton-based Miami Valley Hospital.
"There are 237 hospitals in Ohio providing an economic impact of $29.7 billion in economic activity through 255,000 direct employees," John Palmer, a spokesperson for the Ohio Hospital Association, told Becker's Hospital Review. "Communities in western Ohio continue to see healthcare changes. Hospitals are making serious investments in the delivery of healthcare through new or expanded service lines and new facilities such as urgent care centers, emergency departments and hospitals. Healthcare workers are essential to delivering the quality services of a hospital to patients and communities."
