Healthcare gained 52,400 jobs in May, similar to the average monthly gain of 50,000 over the previous 12 months, according to the latest jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Five things to know:
1. The May count is above the 39,600 jobs added in April and the 33,900 jobs added in March.
2. Within healthcare, ambulatory healthcare services gained the most jobs in May (23,900).
3. Hospitals gained 19,600 jobs in May, compared with 6,600 jobs gained the month prior.
4. Nursing and residential care facilities gained 8,900 jobs in May, and physician offices gained 8,200 jobs.
5. Overall, the U.S. added 339,000 jobs in May, compared with 253,000 in April.
