Workers to strike at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center

Healthcare workers at Pottstown (Pa.) Memorial Medical Center, members of SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania, plan to strike for one day in October, according to a report from The Mercury.

Two hundred seventy-five workers voted Monday to hold the strike after contract negotiations between their union and the hospital broke down earlier this month, according to The Mercury. The union workers have been without a contract since a previous three-year deal expired in August. Negotiations have focused on a number of issues, such as healthcare costs for union members.

SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania represents licensed practical nurses, certified nursing assistants, lab technicians, X-ray technicians, ER technicians as well as other professional, service, maintenance and technical employees at PMMC.

The exact date of the strike is expected to be announced Oct. 1.
