Registered Nurses at Wilkes-Barre (Pa.) General Hospital have voted to authorize sending a strike notice to the hospital, a union spokeswoman confirmed Thursday.
The nurses, represented by the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals, have been working without a contract since April 2013. They went on strike in late 2013 and picketed in April over nurse staffing levels.
Despite the threat of a strike, negotiations between the hospital, part of Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems, and the union are ongoing.
