Staten Island University Hospital nurse strike averted: 3 things to know

Staten Island (N.Y.) University Hospital reached a tentative contract agreement in time to avert a strike that was scheduled for next week, according to a Staten Island Advance report.

Here are three things to know about the agreement.

1. If a deal had not been reached, nurses — represented by the New York State Nurses Association — would have gone on a one-day strike beginning at 7 a.m. July 8. Contract negotiations have been ongoing, and the union authorized the strike in June.

2. The agreement comes nearly a week after Richmond University Medical Center, also in Staten Island, reached a tentative contract agreement in time to avert a strike.

3. Details of both tentative agreements are not yet available, according to the report.
