Nurses at Shore Medical Center in Somers Point, N.J., members of the Shore Nurses Union, will not strike this week as planned, according to a report from The Press of Atlantic City.
Here are three things to know about the planned strike and why it was called off.
1. The union cited a breakthrough in negotiations as the reason behind calling off the one-day strike that was scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. Thursday.
2. This is not the first time the union has called off a planned strike. Last month, the nurses made plans to strike for one day Oct. 8. However, the union postponed that strike to prepare for the potential impact of Hurricane Joaquin.
3. Since the latest planned strike has been called off, Brian Cahill, spokesman for the hospital, said he hopes an agreement is possible soon, according to the report. "We are pleased that the union has rescinded the decision to strike on Oct. 22," Mr. Cahill said, according to The Press of Atlantic City. "We look forward to getting back to the table and bargaining in good faith to negotiate an agreement that will satisfy both parties."
