Shore Medical Center nurses to strike

Nurses at Shore Medical Center in Somers Point, N.J., who are members of the Shore Nurses Union/New York State Nurses Association, plan to strike for one day Oct. 8, according to a report from The Press of Atlantic City.

The nurses are striking after recent negotiations between the hospital and union officials for a new contract were unsuccessful.

The 340 nurses at Shore Medical Center have been working without a contract since September 2014. Union and hospital officials have been at odds over the past year on issues such as salary, benefits and time off, according to the report.

The strike will start at 7 a.m., Oct. 8 and end at 6:59 a.m., Oct. 9.
