Workers at Salinas (Calif.) Valley Memorial Hospital will go on strike Tuesday if no negotiations are made in the coming days, according to a KSBW report.
The hospital and the National Union of Healthcare Workers, which represents roughly 700 employees at SVMH, ranging from housekeeping and food service workers to radiology technicians and accountants, have been in negotiations since last July.
Wages and benefits are among the sticking points in contract talks.
The hospital expressed disappointment in the union's indication that it will strike.
"We believe that we have a very strong contract proposal on the table," SVMH spokeswoman Karina Rusk said, according to the report.
If no negotiations are made in the near future, the union will strike for 24 hours starting at 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to the report.
If the union strikes, the hospital will have temporary workers to fill those spots.
