While many hospitals and health systems are currently laying off employees to stay financially afloat, Salem (Ore.) Health has hired more than 1,000 new employees in the last 12 months, according to a Portland Business Journal report.
In addition to all of the new hires, Salem Health currently has 278 open positions to fill, according to the report.
The hiring binge is a reversal of Salem Health's fortune in 2010 and 2012, when the system had to lay off employees, according to the report. The system has been able to hire more workers in the last year because its patient pool has increased and the local area's economy has been on an upswing, the Portland Business Journal reported.
