Olympia, Wash.-based Providence St. Peter Hospital is laying off nine licensed practical nurses, according to a report by The Olympian.

The layoffs are part of an internal restructuring at the hospital. Officials decided a registered nurse with a certified nursing assistant could handle patient care in certain units, according to the report. LPNs will be cut from St. Peter Hospital's orthopedics, inpatient psychiatry and acute surgery units, The Olympian reported.

After the layoffs, which will occur no later than Aug. 7, the 390-bed hospital will have 16 LPNs, according to the report.
