Registered nurses at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia, Calif., plan to strike for one day on Sept. 3, according to a Santa Clarita Valley Signal report.
The nurses are striking to draw attention to a long-running labor dispute with the hospital, according to the report. At issue is whether nurses are able to bring a class-action lawsuit against the hospital.
RNs want to continue to be able to file class-action lawsuits against the hospital, while hospital management wants it spelled out in the collective agreement that the nurses cannot do so, meaning nurses would agree to be subject to binding arbitration, according to the Santa Clarita Valley Signal.
Cynthia Hanna, lead labor representative and lead negotiator for nurses in this round of talks, said in the report that both sides are expected to return to the bargaining table Aug. 31, and she hopes that a strike can be averted.
