About 100 nurses from Northside Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio, picketed outside the hospital Saturday over contract negotiations, according to a Tribune Chronicle report.
Roughly 400 nurses at the hospital have been without a contract for 14 months, according to the report. The hospital's nurses are represented by the Ohio Nurses Association and the Youngstown General Duty Nurses Association.
"This is about getting a contract that will allow nurses to continue to advocate about safe patient care, safe staffing and also to have a wage and hour increases for the nurses," Eric Williams, president of YGDNA, told the Tribune Chronicle.
Northside Medical Center is part of Youngstown-based ValleyCare Health System, and all other bargaining units in the system have accepted contracts similar to the contract on the table at Northside, according to the report.
"We remain committed to the collective bargaining process and to a positive relationship with our nursing staff and all of or employees," a Northside spokeswoman told the Tribune Chronicle.
