Hospital employees and union representatives held an informational picket Dec. 2 at Elko-based Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital, asking for better working conditions, fair wages and quality healthcare, according to an Elko Daily Free Press report.
Here are four things to know about the picket.
1. Hospital employees at the picket were joined by members of the Service Employees International Union 1107 and Operating Engineers Local 3.
2. The picket comes as the unions are in the bargaining process with NNRH.
3. According to the report, union representatives want:
- The hospital to be accountable for the high profits it makes
- Changes related to how employees are disciplined
- Pay equity
- A safe staffing ratio
4. In response to the picket, Hope Cripps, director of business and community development at NNRH, said the hospital's primary concerns will always be delivering high-quality patient care and creating an excellent work environment for employees. She added, "We are working with the union towards a labor contract that meets the needs of our employees and the hospital. We are negotiating in good faith and will absolutely continue to do so."
