NLRB alleges CHS violated employees' rights: 6 things to know

Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems and seven of its hospitals have come under fire by the National Labor Relations Board for allegedly violating worker rights, according to a Reuters report.

Here are six things to know about the allegations.

1. The NLRB's Office of General Counsel said it issued a consolidated complaint involving 29 charges at CHS hospitals in California, Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia, according to the report.

2. In the complaint, NLRB specifically alleges CHS and these hospitals violated employees' rights to discuss working conditions, punished labor organizing and declined to bargain with unions.

3. CHS does not agree with the charges and will "vigorously contest" them, company spokeswoman Tomi Galin said in an emailed statement, according to Reuters.

"Quality patient care will continue at each of the named hospitals and will not be impacted by this process," Ms. Galin added in the email.

4. Four of the hospitals named in the complaint were among the 38 hospitals CHS said in August it would spin off into a company called Quorum Health Corp.

5. Fallbrook Hospital near San Diego was also named in Monday's complaint. In May, a U.S. appeals court ordered CHS to pay the legal costs of a union that represented nurses at the now-closed Fallbrook, according to the report. CHS reportedly refused to bargain with the Fallbrook workers and ultimately closed the facility, the report notes.

6. An administrative judge in Cleveland is set to begin hearing the case in December.
