Twin Cities area hospitals and unionized workers have reached a tentative three-year deal, according to a Minnesota Public Radio report.
The proposed contract, which includes wage increases for each year, along with increased tuition reimbursement and pension contributions and strengthened health and safety provisions, would help limit workers' exposure to infectious agents and would address workers' rights to refuse to work in circumstances they believe would pose a risk to their health and safety, according to the Service Employees International Union, which was negotiating for 3,500 workers.
The tentative agreement covers eight medical centers within Minnesota: Minneapolis-based Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota, Minneapolis-based Fairview Health Services, HealthEast Care System in St. Paul, North Memorial Health Care in Robbinsdale, and St. Louis Park-based Park Nicollet Health Services (recently merged into HealthPartners).
The tentative agreement will likely be voted on in the next few weeks.
