Hundreds of nurses at Greenbrae, Calif.-based Marin General Hospital went on strike this week, according to a Marin Independent Journal report.
Here are five things to know about the strike.
1. The strike lasted 12 hours.
2. Most of the hospital's roughly 500 registered nurses, represented by the California Nurses Association, were expected to participate in the strike, according to the report.
3. The nurses were striking to get the hospital to add one additional nurse per department, the union said, according to the report.
4. Although the strike took place Nov. 4, nurses are not able to return to work until Nov. 10 due to a five-day minimum requirement for replacement nurses that were brought in to substitute for regular nursing staff.
5. The strike comes as Marin General nurses have been in negotiations with the hospital for 11 months since their contracts expired in December 2014.
