Job security, confidence high among healthcare workers: 5 things to know

Healthcare workers' confidence in the overall strength of the economy and job availability is on the rise once again, according to poll conducted by the healthcare staffing firm Randstad Healthcare.

According to the Randstad Healthcare Employee Confidence Index of more than 3,100 individuals — including more than 150 physicians, nurses, healthcare administrators and other healthcare professionals — healthcare employees' confidence jumped to 57 points in the fourth quarter of 2014, up from 54.3 points in the third quarter.

Highlighted below are five additional findings from the Confidence Index and poll:

  • Employees' confidence in the overall strength of the economy and job availability increased by 7.9 points to 42.9.
  • Roughly 24 percent of healthcare workers believe the economy is getting stronger, up from 19 percent in the third quarter.
  • Twenty-eight percent felt there were more jobs available, up 9 percent from the previous quarter. That said, only 30 percent said they would likely be looking for a new job in the next 12 months (down from 36 percent in the third quarter).
  • More than half (56 percent) of the healthcare workers were optimistic about the ability to find new job, up from 49 percent the previous quarter.
  • A vast majority (76 percent) of healthcare workers felt it was unlikely they would lose their job within the next 12 months, exhibiting the highest levels of job security among all professions surveyed.
