Healthcare Workers are the Nation's Most Stressed

Sixty-nine percent of healthcare workers feel stressed in their job, and 17 percent are "highly stressed," according to a survey from CareerBuilder and MiracleWorkers.com.

These numbers mean healthcare workers are the most stressed workers among all seven surveyed industries. The stress could be attributed to increased workload, as 55 percent of healthcare workers say their workload has increased over the last year.

"As individual workloads increase, administrators must ensure employees are getting the support they need to perform their best," Jason Lovelace, president of CareerBuilder Healthcare, said in a news release. "That may involve expanding headcount or adjusting schedules and paid time off policies."

The next most stressed industry is professional and business services, where 64 percent of employees are stressed. Manufacturing had the smallest number of stressed workers, but still, 55 percent of workers there report being stressed.

The nationwide survey was conducted from Nov. 6 to Dec. 2, 2013, and includes responses from 3,211 workers, including 450 full-time, private-sector healthcare employees.
