Erlanger Health System in Chattanooga, Tenn., will stop hiring tobacco users Jan. 1, 2014, according to a Times Free Press report.
Current employees will be grandfathered in to the policy, but they won't be able to smoke on Erlanger grounds, effective Nov. 21, according to the report.
Erlanger will provide counseling to help current employees quite smoking, WTVC News Channel 9 reported. Employees who continue to smoke will have to pay more for their health insurance beginning in July 2014. Employees caught smoking will have to pay a fine, according to the report.
