More than 330 registered nurses at Drexel Hill, Pa.-based Delaware County Memorial Hospital voted to join the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals, according to a Philadelphia Business Journal report.
Here are three things to know about the vote.
1. The vote, in a secret-ballot election conducted by the National Labor Relations Board Jan. 15 and Jan. 16, was 164 to 130 in favor of joining the union.
2. Nurses at DCMH, part of Springfield, Pa.-based Crozer-Keystone Health System, are the latest workers in the system to join PASNAP. The union already represents 650 nurses and paramedics at Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pa.
3. Now that the vote has been taken, the DCMH nurses will begin negotiating a contract with representatives from Los Angeles-based for-profit company Prospect Medical Holdings, according to PASNAP officials. Prospect, which this month inked a definitive agreement to acquire Crozer-Keystone Health System, expects to formally take over the Crozer-Keystone system hospitals in May or June. The deal still must go through the regulatory approval process.
