Blue Mountain Health System, a two-hospital system with campuses in Palmerton, Pa., and Lehighton, Pa., has laid off 16 employees, according to a report by The Morning Call.
In addition to the layoffs, the system eliminated 13 empty positions and cut the hours of seven employees, according to the report. Senior management and department directors will also take a pay cut as part of the cost-saving measures: their salaries will be reduced by 5 to 7 percent, The Morning Call reported.
System officials pointed to reduced Medicare reimbursements and lower patient volumes as part of why the workforce reduction was made.
