BLS: Hospitals Lose Jobs for Second Month in a Row

While healthcare employment remained virtually unchanged in January, hospitals did not fare nearly as well, according to the most recent jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The healthcare industry as a whole lost just 400 net jobs last month, but hospitals shed 4,500. That furthers December's hospital employment cuts, when the sector lost 4,700 jobs, according to BLS' seasonally adjusted numbers.

Despite the job losses the hospitals experienced last month, ambulatory healthcare services added 9,000 jobs.

Employment in the nation overall rose by 113,000 in 2014's first month.
