Thirty employees at Pottstown (Pa.) Memorial Medical Center and 24 employees at Phoenixville (Pa.) Hospital have been furloughed, according to a report by The Times Herald. Both hospitals are owned by Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems.
At Phoenixville Hospital, the 24 furloughed employees are clinical, non-clinical support and administrators, according to the report. The furloughs have no set timeline. "Staffing is dependent upon patient volume and clinical needs," a spokesperson told The Times Herald.
At Pottstown, the 30 employees have been furloughed for 90 days.
The furlough news comes on the heels of a large transaction involving CHS: the for-profit operator is acquiring Naples, Fla.-based Health Management Associates. The deal is valued at $7.6 billion — CHS will pay Health Management $3.9 billion in cash and stock and assume $3.7 billion of Health Management's debt.
