Cleveland Clinic signed a nonbinding letter of intent Feb. 27 to take over Vero Beach, Fla.-based Indian River Medical Center, according to TCPalm.
Here are four things to know about the deal.
1. Under the letter of intent, the organizations have an additional four months to conduct due diligence and review one another's operations and finances, among other factors.
2. Officials aim to finalize an agreement by July 1, and close the deal Aug. 1.
3. As part of their investigation, IRMC hospital district trustees will visit Cleveland Clinic Florida in Weston March 5.
4. IRMC officials selected Cleveland Clinic to run the hospital in January. The health system was one of four organizations to bid for the hospital, including Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare and Orlando (Fla.) Health.
