Telemedicine is becoming an indispensable part of healthcare, according to Doximity's Dec. 17 report.
The report, called the State of Telemedicine Report, surveyed 1,100 physicians across 10 specialties, more than 130 nurse practitioners, and 2,400 adult patients about telemedicine.
Here are four key findings from the survey:
- Eighty-three percent of telemedicine users want virtual care to remain a permanent part of their practice.
- Sixty-seven percent of physicians report better disease management through telemedicine, with this figure rising to 77% among oncologists.
- Eighty-four percent of respondents say telemedicine improves continuity of care for patients, while 96% see it as either a complement or alternative to in-person visits depending on patient needs.
- Nearly 70% noted that telemedicine helps them address patients’ social determinants of health.
Patients are equally enthusiastic, with 78% expressing a desire for continued access to virtual care options. That figure jumps to 95% among those who had a telemedicine visit in the past year. Nearly all of these patients reported equal or better satisfaction with care and outcomes compared to in-person visits.
