Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health patients can now access TytoCare's portable patient examination device for telehealth appointments.
Patients can use the handheld device to examine their heart, lungs, skin, ears, throat and abdomen as well as measure body temperature. After completing the exam, the patient can send their results directly to a Sanford Health provider, who can diagnose the patient's condition and prescribe medication, if necessary.
Sanford Health charges patients without insurance $59 for a telehealth appointment, and the TytoCare device costs $299.
"This technology will create interpersonal encounters between patients and [physicians] that would have been impossible just a few years ago," said Josh Crabtree, MD, Sanford Health Vice President of Clinic Operations. "Our aim is to deliver quality medical attention to all our patients, whether they live in rural, isolated areas or otherwise face difficulty reaching a [physician]."
