Orlando Health expands virtual visit program

Orlando (Fla.) Health expanded access on Dec. 11 to its virtual visit system for all patients throughout Central Florida.

Orlando Health's virtual visit application now offers 24/7 care to patients with nonemergency symptoms, including rash, urinary tract infection, sore throat and cough. The system, which is powered by telehealth provider Teladoc Health, was previously only available to Orlando Health employees and parents of pediatric patients.

Using the app, patients can connect with a physician through video on a smartphone, tablet or computer to receive a diagnosis and treatment plan for their condition. The average appointment wait time is 10-15 minutes, and any prescriptions the physician writes can be sent directly to the patient's local pharmacy.

"The care our adult patients will now receive via this platform is efficient and very effective as a diagnosis can be provided within minutes — which optimizes outcomes for the patient," Orlando Health Ambulatory Services Senior Vice President Greg Ohe said in a news release emailed to Becker's Hospital Review.
