Ochsner to expand critical care teleICU program: 4 notes

Ochsner LSU Health Monroe (La.), an Ochsner Health System hospital, is adding videoconferencing technology and more care training to its intensive care unit telemedicine program, News Star reports.

Four notes:

1. Ochsner LSU Health Monroe's 16-bed ICU is equipped with two-way audio and video connection with Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport (La.).

2. Shreveport ICU physicians use the telemedicine technology to interact with Monroe physicians, examine patients and review bedside devices, among other capabilities.

3. The Monroe hospital plans to increase its staff and provide its nurses with more education on ICU procedures to keep growing the telemedicine program, Jonathan Phillips, Ochsner LSU Health Monroe COO, told News Star.

4. The New Orleans-based health system implemented the teleICU program in March, and as of May 1, 73 consultations with intensivists had been performed.
