Norton Healthcare partners with Kentucky schools to offer students virtual visits

Louisville, Ky.-based Norton Healthcare teamed up with a local Kentucky school district to provide telemedicine services for elementary school students, Courier Journal reports.

The program allows students at select Jefferson County Public Schools to access Norton Healthcare providers through teleconferencing technology during the school day. If a student feels ill, they can visit the school's nurse, who can then physically examine the student while a Norton Healthcare provider observes and asks questions remotely.

The program, which rolled out in March, has helped diagnose students with inner ear infections, allergies, pinkeye and upper respiratory infections, among other conditions, according to the report.

"We saw this as an opportunity to improve access to healthcare for children in our community, as well as support busy parents," Norton Medical Group Chief Medical Administrative Officer Joshua T. Honaker, MD, told Courier Journal. "The goal of our partnership with JCPS is to keep children healthy, in school and learning."
