New York City-based Mount Sinai Health System announced April 11 it received a $6 million donation toward its IT and telemedicine-enabled plastic and reconstructive surgery suite.
The suite, which is now named The Derfner-Lieberman Family Center for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in recognition of the donation, launched in 2018. With nine private patient exam rooms each equipped with a 55-inch touchscreen Microsoft Surface Hub computer, the suite supports pre-surgical planning reviews as well as enhanced patient-surgeon consultations.
The suite also comprises telemedicine technology, which allows patients who are unable to attend in-person to undergo remote consultations with a Mount Sinai Health System plastic surgeon.
"The creation of The Derfner-Lieberman Family Center for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Mount Sinai will enable more innovative and technologically advanced approaches to plastic and reconstructive surgery, resulting in fewer complications, less pain and quicker recovery to improve overall patient care,” Jay Lieberman, a Derfner Foundation trustee and member of the health system's department of surgery advisory board, said in a news release.
