Mayo, Mass General among health systems investing in virtual care

Below is a list of investments that health systems made in virtual care startups, programs and initiatives in October:

  • Boston-based Mass General Brigham Ventures, the venture capital arm of Mass General Brigham, joined a $26 million investment round for virtual pediatric mental health treatment platform InStride Health. Created by two Harvard-trained clinicians, InStride Health offers pediatric patients struggling with mental health issues individual and group therapy, coaching and medication management.

  • Charleston-based Medical University of South Carolina Health and Cleveland-based MetroHealth System have joined forces to create a nonprofit virtual and in-home care company called Ovatient.

  • Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic partnered with virtual care company Memora Health to launch a research program that allows providers to care for postpartum patients from their homes. Mayo Clinic will use Memora's artificial intelligence-based digitized care programs that will allow its postpartum care teams to interact with new mothers from the comfort of their homes and respond to their needs with tailored guidance in real time.

  • New Orleans-based Ochsner Health has invested in a seed funding round for Hippo Technologies, a virtual care company focused on increasing access to specialty care in rural areas. Hippo offers voice-activated, video-enabled headsets that allow first responders, rural healthcare workers and in-home caregivers to livestream their activities to specialists back at the hospital. The collaboration will first focus on neurology patients.
